The college seal is the insignia of the Divine Word College of Calapan which distinguishes it from other institution in Mindoro and in the Philippines. The DWCC seal is depicted by the symbols contained in a circle. In the circle are the Dove, the Tamaraw and the mountains and fields. The Dove stands for the Holy Spirit which inspires and guides the college in the total development of the educand (spiritual, moral, intellectual, and physical). The Tamaraw represents the sturdy and unique environment of the Mindoreños as it is found only in Mindoro. The mountains and fields represent the bountiful resources of the province which the DWCC seeks to discover and develop through its graduates. The triangle which encloses the tamaraw, mountains and fields signifies that Mindoro is part of the three geographical divisions of the Philippines and that DWCC is called upon to support the vision and mission of the Filipino people. The Divine Word College of Calapan has for all its aim the provision of general education that will develop the whole human personality and seek to create a cultural environment that will prepare him to be professionally competent for life. The school is committed to the task of making each student aware of his role as a Christian, as a student and as a Filipino. The regulations that follow apply to all students who are enrolled in the Divine Word College of Calapan and who, upon admission, agree to abide by these same regulations and conduct themselves so as to maintain discipline, uphold the good order of the school, present the fair name of the college and actualize its Mission Statement. Company Profile
Short Historical BackgroundThe Mindoro Junior College, now Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC), was opened in July 6, 1946 in response to an urgent need of the community. The main reasons for its establishment were as follows: 1) to provide college educational services to high school graduates who could not pursue college education in Manila or neighboring provinces due to financial constraints; 2) to prepare teachers for mission schools of the Mindoro provinces. The moving force behind its foundation was Father Benito Rixner, SVD. In the beginning, the striving institution occupied no more than the lower floor area of the Bishop residence (now the Calapan Parish Rectory) with just 37 students. In 1951, the school occupied the upper floor of the old building of the Holy Infant Academy. In 1953, the students transferred to a newly constructed 2-storey building (now the Catholic Center). The school year 1964-65 marked the milestone in the development of the school through the effort of the Vicar Apostolic of Calapan, Most Reverend William Joseph Duschak, SVD, DD. In 1964-65, the DWCC moved to its present spacious campus with imposing sturdy buildings built along modern architectural lines. The elementary department was likewise opened. A year later, the high school department started its operation. Remaining faithful to its original inspiration, DWCC has experienced a steady face of development in recent years after passing through times of birth and initial growth. The PAASCU accreditation it received on October 27, 1983 is a recognition of its maturity as an educational institution. It enjoys the privilege of being the first PAASCU accredited school in Region IV and the first among the seven Divine Word Colleges in the Philippines. As such, it is called to assume the educational lead among the schools in Mindoro. In 1995, DWCC was selected a center of excellence for teacher education in Region IV by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). In 1997, the high school department moved to its new campus in Pachoca. Contact Information
